About
Hausbarn makes your smartphone the only tool you need to seamlessly find places to live in your area, add and edit information and media (eg. pictures and videos) about homes you see for sale, and even generate and upload textured 3D models of the buildings.
Hausbarn is for anyone interested in buying, selling or just browsing real estate. By letting users view, edit and interact with the home data, Hausbarn provides a community driven tool available for everyone to use. And, by making all of the data publicly available, the home seeking experience should improve for everyone.
Features
Hausbarn has a number of features that make it uniquely well suited to smartphones, especially Google's Android handsets. Mapping functionality is a key component, while peripheral devices like cameras, GPS, and accelerometers let you easily provide a large amount of property data for the Hausbarn database.
The key current features of Hausbarn include:
- Adding, editing and viewing property data from the handset.
- Construction of 3D textured building models from camera images, aided by accelerometer input.
- Server side storage of property data.
- Google map integration for locating and navigating properties.
- GPS functionality for finding and adding properties in your immediate vicinity.
- Photographs and Videos uploaded directly from the handset.
From the start, Hausbarn is designed to be intuitive. Tutorials are enabled for the application's first use. They explain the available options on each screen, and help guide you through using every feature. Hausbarn is designed for a touch screen display, so all functions may be performed with the on screen buttons.
Current State
Hausbarn is currently in an alpha state, which demonstrates the application's primary features and basic functionality. It has been submitted to the first round of Google's Android Developer Challenge. The challenge results will affect how quickly Hausbarn is brought to market.
Future Plans
There are a number additional ideas and improvements to be implemented, before Hausbarn is ready for release. These include:
1. Improve the 3D model construction process to make use of an arbitrary number of building photographs, instead of the current 4 side only approach.
2. Provide a web browser based viewer for online viewing or properties in the Hausbarn database from any computer.
3. Add support for importing Google earth building models.
4. Use a photographic mosaic for 360 panoramic views outward from buildings, in place of the current 4 view approach.
5. Add options specifically targeted at apartment and condo style residences.
6. Implement the verification of property information by owners.
